Adolescence is a period of rapid brain development, shaped not only by biology but by relationships, environment, and lived experience. This session explores how changes in the adolescent brain influence decision-making, emotions, risk-taking, and sensitivity to respect, autonomy, and power dynamics with adults. Participants will examine how trusted adult relationships can support healthy development, promote resilience, and create conditions where young people feel valued, capable, and understood. 

Learning Objectives:  

1. Explain how adolescent brain development affects behavior, emotions, and relationships with adults.
2. Identify ways adults can support healthy adolescent development through respectful relationships. 

Participants in Colorado are eligible for a $500 minigrant upon completion of the post-training survey in order to support the facilitation of the Building Trusted Relationships training in their communities.

Audience
This Train-the-Trainer session is designed for professionals who provide training to educators, school staff, youth-serving professionals, and parents/caregivers of young people age 11-24. 

Duration: 2 hours

Learning Objectives

1. Explain and teach the connection between youth vaping, mental health, and trusted adult relationships.  
2. Coach others to be able to identify and practice strategies for building trusted adult relationships with youth in their communities.  
3. Adapt and deliver the Building Trusted Relationships training with fidelity to core messages while tailoring examples and discussions to the community context. 

This interactive Lunch & Learn introduces the Trusted Adult Principles—10 practical, youth-informed strategies for building trust, connection, and emotional safety with young people. Participants explore real-world scenarios, reflect on their own practice, and apply relationship-centered approaches that support student mental health and reduce risky behaviors like vaping. Designed for educators and youth-serving professionals, the session blends research and youth voice to help adults show up with intention, care, and impact.
